Celebrate the New Year Online

While some people may go to fancy parties to celebrate bringing in the New Year, other people (like me) usually stay at home and watch a movie, or maybe surf the Internet. So, let's take some time to hunt for sites dedicated to bringing in the New Year.
If you're stuck at home celebrating the New Year, maybe you'd like to have a glimpse into what's going on in New York City. EarthCam's New Year's 2002 site has eight cameras set up to observe the celebration in Times Square as well as other locations around the globe. You'll be able to see Web cams set up in places like Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, London, Dublin, and more.
Did you know that the celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays and was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago? At New Year's Day History, Traditions, and Customs, you'll learn that the Babylonian New Year began at the beginning of spring and lasted eleven days. Discover why we celebrate the New Year on January 1, and learn more about our New Year's traditions, such as the Tournament of Roses parade and the making of New Year's resolutions.
Send your kids over to the Black Dog's Happy New Year Party, where they'll be able to play online games, make crafts such as creating their own calendar, or send free online greeting cards to their friends and family members.
At AllRecipes.com, you'll discover recipes for "lucky" foods from around the world. The lucky food in Greece is Vasilopita, which is a cake baked with a coin inside. This tradition originated from the high taxes that the Ottoman Empire imposed on the Greek people during their reign. In Italy, people celebrate the New Year by tossing old things out of their windows! Their lucky food is called cotechino con lenticchie, which is pork sausage served over lentils. In America, we eat ham, corn bread, collard greens, and black eyed peas. Recipes for each of the "lucky" foods are available at the site.
Do you make a New Year's Resolution every year, only to break it on January 10 (or sooner)? At the How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution site, you'll learn how to succeed at keeping your resolution, common resolutions, and the background and traditions of making New Year's resolutions.
Finally, the Internet offers several cool places for sending free online greeting cards. Try 123Greetings.com, Awesome Cards, And, Yahoo! Greeting Cards.
Happy New Year!
