Thankful I Don't Ride Public Transportation

(Excerpt from "thankful I don't ride public transportation" in "stories from a Pasadena Life life", a blog by Paloma Cruz.)
Several media outlets today reported that there were two separate incidents/accidents involving the METRO rail line. METRO's light rail involved in two accidents on the same day is just one, provided by the local ABC channel.
I know that I've been commenting on this quite a bit lately, but when I moved into the Pasadena/Houston area, I never felt unsafe. Of course, it has been one and a half decades since that happened (almost) but things have changed dramatically. All I have to do is watch the news to convince myself of that, as if I needed convincing. Man Sexually Assaults Grandmother; Kidnaps, Robs Mother, Baby; 2 Schools Placed In Lockdown Mode is one of the many stories that ran today that proves that safety these days is a myth.
Read in the Pasadena Citizen, It's strawberry season again in Pasadena - "For several weeks, the grocery produce shelves have been loaded with luscious strawberries - perhaps the best quality we've seen in years. When April moves closer to May, Pasadenans and the area know that the annual Strawberry Festival cannot be far behind. Preparations to ensure that this year's festival will also be "the best quality" have been under way since about July of last year. Volunteers shifted into high gear as soon as the new year began, and the momentum will increase as the days draw closer to the Parade Day on May 14." Hope to see you at the Pasadena Strawberry Festival.
